As Ireland’s Enterprise Bank we began our Enterprise Town initiative in late 2013, launching in Kells, Co. Meath. By the end of 2015, we will have supported local communities in delivering over 50 more across Ireland.
The Enterprise Town initiative seeks to work with local businesses to plan and deliver a range of activities that will support and generate business in the area. The initiative also involves the wider community and the schools to ensure everyone can get involved and be part of the positive experience that is an Enterprise Town.
Bank of Ireland wants to support the development of smaller communities at both business level and in the wider context, incorporating schools, sports, social and charitable associations. The Enterprise Town initiative has been developed to allow this to happen and, to date, has worked very well in delivering excellent, community led results across the country
Businesses
The Enterprise Town event usually begins on a Friday with a Business & Community Expo, which allows local businesses to showcase what they do. It is also a chance to network – meet potential customers & suppliers, share ideas, and show the level of enterprise that is right on the doorstep
Communities
The Enterprise Town event then usually features a Sports & Community Expo on a Saturday, with all the local sports clubs, community clubs and societies gathering together to show what they do, to sign up new members and to recruit new supporters. The Sports & Community Expo is a fun day, with something for all the family.
Schools
Organising the Enterprise Town events presents a wonderful opportunity for first and second-level students – in particular those in Transition Year – to gain valuable ‘real world’ experience. These students are a vital part of any community, and it is important to introduce them to enterprise in action and to open their young eyes to exciting opportunities.
I have also attached the Link via our Website about Enterprise Town which will help us all in explaining to Businesses and Groups why it is important to get involved.
