West Coast Challenge Golf
The West Coast Challenge, played over four of the finest links Courses in the North West of Ireland, which are unique in their own way, presents a challenge to golfers of all abilities. This Golf Tournament which has been running for more than 30 years, is known for the camaraderie amongst the competitors and the welcome received in each of the Clubhouses. The Organisers welcome both men and women and look forward to the entrants testing their skills in the Tournament, one of the longest running in Ireland.
The competition:
The competition will take place on Monday 7th to Thursday 10th September 2020. The competition will be run under GUI rules. The Organising Committee reserves the right to revise any players handicap during the tournament. The decision of the Organising Committee shall be final in any matter relating to the tournament.
The Courses:
Bundoran, Donegal, Enniscrone and Strandhill are four of the finest links courses along the western seaboard. Certainly nowhere else in Ireland are there four such testing or scenically located courses to be found. They are situated along the crescent of Donegal, Killala and Sligo bays with their much indented Atlantic coastline.
Donegal Golf Course (Murvagh) is an outstanding championship links course, which lies on a peninsula in Donegal bay. The course is set over dunes formed by the might of the Atlantic Ocean. It is described by British Open Champion Darren Clarke as “one of my favourite courses in the world.”
Bundoran is designed by the great Harry Varden and an early training ground for the illustrious Christy O’ Connor Snr. Bundoran is a challenging par 70 of 5,688 meters. It sweeps along the sea with undulating terrain.
Strandhill is described by Christy O’Connor Jnr as “the jewel of the West”, this scenic links course is situated between Knocknaree Mountain and the Atlantic breakers, where you will find golf in its most natural form amid the sand dunes of the West of Ireland. Not long at 5,486 meters but a course where accuracy will be rewarded.
Enniscrone is the venue for GUI/ILGU top amateur events, Ladies and Gents Irish Close and Cups and Shields Finals. This gem of a links has some amazing holes, ranked 14th best course in Ireland by Golf Digest for 2017.
