Irish Water Update:
Irish Water working in partnership with the Local Authority has incident plans in place and crews on standby to deal with the effects of Storm Ophelia. Irish Water recognises that the predicted conditions are likely to result in power outages at critical water and wastewater installations which could compromise service delivery. Heavy rainfall may also increase the risk of flooding.
Power outages may impact the operation of our water treatment plants which would compromise the safety of drinking water. Where risk arises, working with the HSE, Irish Water will impose precautionary Boil Water Notices as necessary. We would advise homeowners to put aside a supply of drinking water as part of their storm preparations in case of power outages.
Irish Water is collating information on outages and other issues and will be updating our website constantly during this crisis. We envisage that crews will be unlikely to be able to respond to breakdowns in plants until it is safe to do so and this may lead to a loss of service for a period. However Irish Water and Local Authorities crews will respond as quickly as possible to restore services when it is safe to do so.
If you have issues with your water supply please view our service supply map on water.ie, visit twitter at @IWCare or call us on 1850 278 278. We would appreciate if members of the public would only call if there is an emergency as due to the storm there are staff shortages in our call centre in Cork today. If there is a high volume of calls there may be some delay in getting through, we are grateful for your patience and cooperation. Due to the Storm to protect the safety of our staff the Local Representative Support Desk will be closed today

Bundoran Water Treatment Plant –
Irish Water and Donegal County Council have made significant progress dealing with recent disruption to the operation of Bundoran Water Treatment Plant, following a severe flooding incident last week when the plant was submerged in over half a metre of water as a result of Storm Desmond. The plant is now back in operation and producing fully treated water for the Bundoran area, following a significant clean up and emergency repair operation by Irish Water working with Donegal County Council throughout last week and through the weekend.
Last week, drinking water was supplied to the Bundoran area from Ballyshannon Water Supply Scheme and from neighbouring counties of Leitrim and Fermanagh (with the assistance of Northern Ireland Water) to minimise the disruption to customers in the affected area. Tankered water supplies were also provided by Irish Water to customers in Bundoran without a water supply.
The plant is now back in operation but there are still major works to be carried out to ensure security of water supply and prevent further disruption. Most customers now have a normal water supply but any who are still experiencing outages should check www.water.ie or call 1890 278 278 to report a fault or check for service updates.
Irish Water apologises to all customers affected by this incident and thanks them for their patience and co-operation while supplies were disrupted. Irish Water and Donegal County Council remain on site to complete remaining repair work as soon as possible.
Irish Water would like to thank the staff of Donegal County Council, Northern Ireland Water, Leitrim County Council, Sligo County Council, the EPA, HSE and the ESB for their continuing assistance in dealing with this on-going incident.

Irish Water and Donegal County Council continue to implement their major incident plan following the major flooding of the Bundoran Water Treatment Plant which still remains non-operational.
Irish water would like to assure all customers that the situation at the treatment plant is under constant review considering the current weather conditions where further intense rainfall is expected over the next number of days.
Irish Water can confirm that the flood waters at the Bundoran Water Treatment Plant have been pumped off site and that the temporary flood defence wall has been reinforced.
Further to these works a clean-up operation is currently underway to facilitate an assessment by engineering staff on the condition of key process treatment plant and equipment affected by flood waters.
Operational changes to the network have been undertaken as part of this major incident plan to keep customers in supply where possible.
These temporary changes are under constant review to maintain normal standards of service to the vast majority of customers who are normally served from the Bundoran Water Treatment Plant.
However, customers in the following areas may experience intermittent/no-supply during peak periods of demand;
• Rathmore to Lissacholly
• Loughside Group Scheme (Co. Leitrim)
o Derrynaseer
o Lareen to Edenvella
Irish Water is monitoring these areas to ensure return of normal water supply as soon as possible.
Where a customer has water coming from their tap, this water can be used in a normal manner; it does not have to be boiled before use.
For people experiencing outages Mobile Water Tankers and Standpipe are located at strategic points throughout the Bundoran network. Please note that water taken from these tankers and the standpipe whilst fully treated, and safe to drink must be boiled before use.
The tanker locations are as follows:
• Bowser Location No. 1: Sea Front Carpark, Astoria Road
• Bowser Location No. 2: Central Lane Car Park
• Bowser Location No. 3: Old Tullaghan Road, Magheracar
• Bowser Location No. 4: BMG Hardware, Access Road
• Standpipe Location: Market Yard, Ballyshannon (adjacent to fire station)

Further interruptions may continue to be experienced today and tomorrow and these could affect the entire Bundoran area. This incident is consistently being reviewed, it is a priority for Irish Water to return service as normal to the area. Irish Water will provide further updates tomorrow the 9th of December.
