Successful St Patrick’s Day Parade in Bundoran

Thousands of people crowded the streets of Bundoran on Saturday for another successful St Patrick’s Day parade in the seaside town. No rain fell on the day and despite cold conditions, spectators secured their places early in order to catch a glimpse of the parade which started at 3:30pm from the East End.

Up on 400 people took part in the parade including football teams, emergency services, local community groups and local businesses. The parade also welcomed some international visitors to participate on the day – The Women of Irish Heritage from New Jersey, PIMA College from Tucson Arizona, Central Arizona College and also seven youths representing Bundoran’s Twin Town in Germany, Bad Kötzting. Four bands performed for the crowds as well as the local Unstoppable Street Band.

Judging took place at the viewing stand at the Holyrood Hotel and delivered the following results:

1st place – Stars of the West

2nd place – NYP/Foroige

3rd place – Castle Adventure Open Farm.

The parade was also broadcast live on the Discover Bundoran Facebook page with commentary from Bundoran Tourism Officer Shane Smyth. Viewers tuned in to watch the parade worldwide with people watching in America, Australia and even Zimbabwe! The broadcast can be watched below.
