Rossnowlagh Friary 70th Anniversary Of Dedication

The Franciscan Community in the South Donegal resort of Rossnowlagh, have announced a Day of Celebration on Sunday 26 June to mark the 70th Anniversary of the Dedication of the Friary.

The day will be marked by the celebration of Mass/Holy Eucharist at 3pm on 26 June in the Friary.  The celebrations will also be marked with an exhibition of archive material from local and national sources that will reflect the important role that the Community have played in the spiritual life and wellbeing of the Northwest.  Prior to the Mass there will be a liturgical procession, led by the Ballyshannon Brass and Reed Band from the site of the original foundation to the current Friary, weather permitting.

The Most Rev Alan McGuckan SJ, Bishop of Raphoe has kindly accepted an invitation to participate in the event.  It is expected that may local religious and civic leaders will attend.

The celebrations will also enable members of the public to meet and renew contact with many former and, of course, current members of the Community.  In addition, many laypeople associated with supporting the Friary over the years will attend.  Light refreshments will be served at a social event in the Friary Hall following the Mass.

All are welcome and Father Eugene Barrett, OFM, The Guardian of the Community, has invited anyone with memorabilia associated with the history of the foundation to bring it along.  “This is a very special day for us and the area and we, as a Community, are keen to thank all those who have supported and sustained us in the past and continue to do so today”, concluded Father Eugene.
