The Mullaghmore Triathlon & Aquathlon 2019 – 22nd June
Mullaghmore will celebrate the 19th running of its iconic triathlon on 22nd June this year. Probably Ireland’s most scenic triathlon, this event has grown from a small event in 2000 with just 40 competitors to one of the country’s most popular triathlons with upward of 500 racing. For many, the race offers a first time to dip the toe into the sport of triathlon with its extremely popular short course swim option whilst for others, the legend of Mullaghmore Tri has made this race a bucket list event attracting triathletes from the four provinces and beyond our shores. In recent years Mullaghmore Triathlon has enjoyed a high national profile having been voted second in the Outsider Magazine Best Outdoor Adventure Race in Ireland whilst it topped the Red Bull list of must do triathlons for 2018.
Mullaghmore Triathlon is a unique event on the Triathlon Ireland Race calendar as it offers competitors a choice of swimming either a 300m or 750m course. The swim course itself is a favourite amongst triathletes and open water swimmers as it takes place in the sheltered and sandy bay of Mullaghmore where swimmers enter the water at the beach and swim either 300m or 750m to exit at the sailing club slipway. The cycle course offers competitors a mini tour of north Sligo’s picturesque villages of Cliffoney and Grange standing against the beautiful backdrop of the Dartry Mountains, Ben Whisken, Truskmore and mighty Benbulbin whilst the stunning 5km run around the magnificent Mullaghmore Head will leave competitors breathless.
After a highly successful first running of the Mullaghmore Junior Aquathlon, the organisers are delighted to once again host this super swim-run event for children. With massive growth in triathlon and multisport in recent years amongst children, there is huge demand for events catering specifically to children. Over 50 children competed at Mullaghmore in four age groups from 8 to 15 years and Mullaghmore Tri & Aquathlon Organisers are very excited about the races which will cater for an increased number of participants in what will be a very special event.
