Bundoran Time Capsule to be sealed this weekend

Bundoran Time Capsule to be sealed on Saturday

As part of Bundoran Heritage Weekend and the 100 Years of Democracy exhibition, a time capsule will be sealed this Saturday (23rd August 2014) at Bundoran Community Library.

The idea of the time capsule has been in the works for some time now as part of the project conceived by Magh Ene Historical Society, Bundoran Community Library and Discover Bundoran and it was decided that the most appropriate time to seal it would be over the heritage weekend celebrations.

Jill Doherty of Bundoran Community Library said ‘while the idea of a time capsule is not something new, it is new for us – so much has happened in Bundoran already in 2014 and we want to use the Time Capsule to capture the Bundoran of 2014 by way of photographs, videos, documents and other items relevant to the town. It will remain on view in the library for 25 years and be opened on August 23rd 2039.

The ceremony will take place at 12 midday on Saturday 23rd August in Bundoran Community Library with items for inclusion in the Time Capsule to be presented by various members of the community. Items for the capsule will include a jar of sand from Bundoran beach, photo books of Bundoran compiled by the Northwest Photographic Club, submissions from St Macartan’s National School, DVDs, Newspapers and more. All are welcome to attend the ceremony and more details about the time capsule and its contents can be found on www.discoverbundoran.com/timecapsule
