Call for participants for St Patrick’s Day Parade
As the theme for this year’s St Patrick’s Day parade is revealed, the organizing committee are calling for local businesses and community groups to put their thinking caps on to create inventive floats to partake in the annual parade on March 17th.
John O’Connell, event director for the St Patrick’s Day parade said ‘after careful consideration, this year’s theme for the parade will be “Celebrating Community Spirit”. We felt that this was an important theme particularly with the fact that there are over 50 community groups in existence in Bundoran. In a small town like ours, community spirit is vital and this is one of the first major tourism events of the year so we hope that everyone will make a special effort for this year’s parade.’
The parade will start from the East End of Bundoran on Tuesday March 17th at 3.30pm and route up Main Street, West End and then return to Magh Ene College for the prize giving.
Bundoran Tourism Officer Shane Smyth said “We are looking forward to a huge St Patrick’s Day parade this year. A great effort was put into last year’s with support from the Defence Forces and also great national coverage from RTE News. This year, St Patrick’s weekend will be extra busy as we welcome thousands of athletes for the Cara 10 Challenge and also some special visitors from three of our Douzelage Twin Towns of Sherborne (UK), Meersen (Netherlands) and Houffalize (Belgium). The town will also be turning green again as many of the businesses will be lighting up the outside of their premises.’
