Irish Surf Nationals 2023 to take place in Bundoran
Irish Surfing, the governing body for surfing in Ireland, has announced that the annual Irish Surf Nationals 2023 Selection event will take place in Bundoran on the weekend of September 23rd and 24th this year.
The event is a crucial one in the Irish Surfing calendar as the top surfers in the country will descend upon the town to compete for the title of Irish surfing champion 2023. It is also a selection event for the team that will attend the World Surfing Games in Puerto Rico in February 2024 – the final qualifying event ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The weekend will include mens, womens, masters, kneeboard and bodyboard events.

The Irish surf team has recently returned from Santa Cruz, Portugal where they took part in the European Surfing Championships (Eurosurf) with the team coming fifth overall in Europe. Current Irish champion Gearoid McDaid from Strandhill came 2nd overall in the individual competition.

Bundoran’s outstanding natural amenities for surfing make the location the perfect choice for hosting the annual event, with options to hold the event at The Peak or Tullan Strand depending on conditions.
Bundoran Tourism Officer Shane Smyth said ‘it’s great to see Irish Surfing return with this event to Bundoran. As Ireland’s #SurfCapital we are proud to host this prestigious event and welcome the cream of Irish surfers to the town for the weekend. Fingers crossed that the conditions will be just right for the competitions.’
