3 new festivals for Bundoran

Three new festivals for Bundoran were part of the announcements made for the 2019 season at the launch of the tourism partnership’s new brochure on Tuesday (15th January).

To kickstart the year, the Atlantic Irish Fest takes place in January in association with the Milwaukee Irish Festival – A three day event focusing on the music and culture of the northwest. Bundoran’s Big Week by the Beach will take place in August and will feature a series of events including a golf scramble, the Bundoran Surf Open, live music, quiz nights, historical events and more to be announced. The Bia Bundoran Food Festival in September will promote all that is good about the culinary offering in the town and will be run collectively by the food outlets in the town.

The launch, sponsored by AIB, presented those attending with an overview of the year ahead, a new 48 page brochure and a “new season” video which is available across the Discover Bundoran suite of social media channels. Held in the new Roguey Suite of the Bundoran Community Centre, the event was attended by tourism providers, representatives of Failte Ireland, community and political representatives.

Bundoran Tourism Officer Shane Smyth hosted the launch and said ‘we are excited to be able to add three new events to the calendar which will hopefully return annually. We couldn’t run them however with the cooperation of our trade partners and we thank them for their continued support. Bundoran had a great season in 2018 and despite any uncertainties with Brexit we will continue to provide a fun family holiday destination and an entertaining programme throughout 2019.’

The town will also welcome the return of Darkness Into Light on May 11th which saw over 1000 participants in the augural Bundoran event in 2018, the Cara Bundoran Challenge, St Patrick’s Day Parade (and live Facebook broadcast), the Street Party, Vintage & Classic Car Show, Pumpkin Carving & Parade, numerous country music festivals and of course Sea Sessions Surf & Music Festival which this year will celebrate its 11th year.

John O’Connell, Chairperson of Discover Bundoran added ‘we will once again put a focus on the Fairy Bridges and Wishing Chair which was named in Ireland’s Top 10 Hidden Gems in 2018. A brand new brochure has been printed and will be distributed near and far to encourage our visitors to visit one of the town’s most iconic landmarks. Bundoran, once again, offers a wide range of events and activities year round for both our residents and visitors and we encourage guests to click to our website www.discoverbundoran.com or our social media channels to be kept right up to date with everything that’s going on in town.’

Mark Crawford, branch manager, AIB Ballyshannon and sponsors of the event said ‘we are once again sponsoring the brochure launch and business directory contained within as we see the huge value that Discover Bundoran brings to the business community in the town in promoting it as Ireland’s Premier Seaside resort and we are delighted to be associated with that. We wish everyone huge success for the forthcoming season.’
